Quote from the Dutch computer scientist Edsger Dijkstra: "Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes."

Many have the belief that computers are the focus of computer science - this is not the case. The computer is a helpful instrument as it is in many other disciplines too.
Computer science, for example, deals indirectly with linguistics. Many people who have dealt with computer science or are still dealing with it will surely have heard the name Chomsky. Perhaps they really do not know that Mr. Noam Chomsky is a linguist. Now the question is, what has a linguist in computer science to do or why does he play such a major role in computer science?
Without the linguistics, computer science and our modern age with all the technical equipment would not have been possible. All the programming languages, compilers etc. are based on the knowledge of linguistics.
Computer science is also inconceivable without mathematics - another discipline which is one of the pillars of computer science.
Another important discipline is the electrical engineering. The interesting thing about this discipline is that it goes a symbiosis with computer science, that means that electrical engineering is another pillar for computer science, and computer science is one of the pillars for electrical engineering.
